They were very successful!

In history we are exploring the Anglo Saxons, Picts and Scots. This week we focussed on Sutton Hoo and the archeological dig that enabled us to learn so much about this period of time. The children were fascinated by this and produced some good work following their research.

As it was World Book Day on Thursday the children enjoyed describing their characters and explaining why they chose their books.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; We have completed our work on The Amazon Rainforest as the children compared the land use to that of our local woods. We were able to create a bar chart using the information from our questionnaires. The children then used the bar chart to answer questions.

We have completed our project on birds and the children found that the most common bird in our local area was a blackbird.

The children had a fabulous time on the walk and took many photos!

They also had a great time at the disco Thursday evening.

Spring Two

I will send more details of the topics and projects we will be working on next half-term.

Church Visit

On Tuesday 27th February we will be going to Christ Church as they will be providing a morning of activities and learning related to places of worship (which we are currently studying in RE.)

Holiday Homework

I have given every child a spelling and times table sheet for them to work on in the holidays. I am glad we cancelled as the weather did not improve that day. I have re-scheduled the walk for next Thursday 15th February, so please ensure the children have an extra pair of boots and waterproof coat. They will need to bring their boots in a named plastic bag.

We have been working on division within 2 numbers this week in our maths lessons.

For English we have begun a new project based on the story of Alice in Wonderland. The children have been reading the play script.

It was 'mental health week' so we did a lot of work on core strengths.

It was also 'safer internet day' so we looked at AI and how to stay safe online.

We had a meditation today and circle time. We discussed how we manage disappoitment and the children wrote about their personal experiences.

NEXT WEEK

English

We will continue our project on play scripts. The children will be writing a scene from Alice in Wonderland. They will be using scripts to set up props and act the scene. They will be videoing the scenes and analysing them.

Maths

We will continue to work on division and our times tables next week. There will be an end of topic assessment.

Science

The children will be experimenting with chocolate next week as they investigate the affect of water temperature.

Geography

Hopefully the weather will be appropriate for our field trip. Following this the children will be analysing data and assessing how it would affect people if the wooded area was destroyed. We will be looking at how this relates to areas within the Amazon Rainforest.

RE

We will be thinking about how we use certain places and spaces in our lives for prayer, reflection, peace and quiet. We will consider how this differs to going to a place of worship.

Spellings

Group One

space

envy

envious

courage

mountain

dangerous

famous

furious

spacious

poison

Group Two

danger

drive

pretty

greedy

clumsy

brother

different

hoping

scene

stage

Group Three

Mr

Mrs

Miss

went

there

I wish you all a restful and happy weekend.

Ms Davis
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-3822285201757981572024-02-02T16:01:00.000+00:002024-02-02T16:01:13.625+00:00Week ending 2nd February 2024
Hello Year Four,

The week has flown by as we have been so busy!

We have continued to work on multiplication and division in our maths lessons.

For English we have been writing poems. We were inspired by the book 'The Tear Thief' as it is full of alliteration. I would like to share one of these with you.

Slowly she swooped silently

Up to the shiny silvery moon

She swiftly skipped from house to house

Pouring them perfectly into a pearl-shaped pond

The majestic moon made her smile

By Olivia Sleet

The children wrote about their visit to the Hindu temple. They were given small photos that they took during the day to use within their writing. They were obviously inspired as they wrote pages!

Next Week

English

For English next week we will begin a new project. The children will be learning how to write play scripts. We will be using the story 'Alice in Wonderland.' The children will eventually perform using their own scripts and video record the action.

Maths

It will be our last week on multiplication and division.

Please ensure your child works on his/her times tables at least three times a week.

Geography

Next Thursday we will be taking the children on a field trip. This will be covering aspects of our work in geography and a study in science.

We will be investigating a wooded area to find out what it is used for and who it would impact if it was removed or destroyed. It links in with our exploration of the Amazon Rainforest.

Science

We have been studying birds as part of the NSPCB project for children. Our field trip will include an observational activity of the birds in the area.

Spanish

We will be continuing our learning of the Spanish names for family members.

PHSE

The children will be thinking about disappointment and how to manage this often difficult emotion. They will be given strategies to help when this feels overwhelming.

Spellings

Group One

international

intercept

interrupt

antibiotic

antidote

length

width

coffee

striped

caterpillar

Group Two

corner

forget

forgot

prefer

garden

only

shout

shake

shrink

shrunk

Group Three

came

about

them

then

there

Walk to the woods

As explained earlier we will be going on a short field trip on Thursday morning. The children will need warm coats and a change of shoes/boots (preferably wellington boots.) Please have these in a named bag as the dirty boots will need to be removed once we arrive back at school.

Home Project

For Design and technology this term we are focusing on shell structures. We have done quite a lot of background work already.

The children will be designing and creating a skyscraper building, so I would like them to do some research before this begins.

They need to look online, in magazines, newspapers and books for pictures and photos of skyscraper buildings. They will need to write some facts about their findings, such as where the building is located, when it was built and it's height. They can include more information than this if they wish to. They can look at tall buildings in other countries and find out the differences in style and materials. They could go on a walk and draw or photograph tall buildings in our local area.

If you need any further information on this research project please see me after school or email me.

I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.

Ms Davis

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-43227907039667427332024-01-26T16:03:00.002+00:002024-01-26T16:03:23.396+00:00Week ending 26th January 2024
Hello Year Four,

We have had an amazing week! Our trip to the Hindu temple was fantastic! The children learned so much about another religion and culture. They were extremely engaged and interested. The staff went out of their way to welcome us and attend to all our needs. The lunch was delicious!

We began the day by visiting the temple and learning about their Gods, how they pray and their daily timetable, which begins at 4am!

The children were able to dress up in traditional costume and have their faces painted. They were shown rituals and features of the Hindu religion.

We rode on a cart pulled by oxen to visit the dairy, the cows and the oxen.

It was a wonderful and memorable day and I will share a few photos with you.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; The children are moving ahead with their times tables and have been creating their own resources to help them. They have taken these home and need to use them at least a few times a week to ensure that they know all their tables to twelve within the coming weeks.

The children wrote beautifully this week. The writing was inspired by the book 'The Tear Thief' and they wrote a daily diary. The vocabulary was amazing, the use of sophisticated verbs and phrases and the extended sentences was evident throughout their work.

In our science lesson we learned about the water cycle. The children enjoyed this and soon understood that the cycle in continuous.

For geography we really dug deep into the structure of the Amazon Rainforest.

Next Week

English

Next week we will be working on poetry. The children will learn about alliteration and the poems will be inspired by the story 'The Tear Thief.'

Maths

We will continue to work on multiplication and division. Please ensure your child practises spellings at home as often as possible.

Geography

The focus will be learning about the indigenous people of the Amazon Rainforest.

Design and Technology

Next week the children will be making nets of different shapes and sizes. We will continue to learn about shell structures before they begin their planning.

RE

We have been exploring praise and worship and the different buildings that are used for different religions. The children will continue to research this and on Thursday they will have the first-hand experience of visiting a Mandir. Later this term I have booked a visit to Christ Church for a morning of activities to learn about churches and how they are used for prayer and worship.

School Visit

The children are very excited for the trip to the Mandir next Thursday. Please ensure that they arrive at school on time and in full school uniform. They do not need to bring anything with them. Packed lunches or snacks are not permitted inside the temple. We are all looking forward to this amazing experience.

I wish you a happy weekend.

Ms Davis

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-46376147249427717572024-01-12T16:16:00.003+00:002024-01-12T16:16:58.091+00:00Week ending 12th January 2024
Hello Year One,

We have had a very busy first week back. One big surprise was receiving all the new books for our classroom. Everyone is so excited and it is great to see children so enthusiastic about reading. We also have a handmade tree in the school library. Please read the message below from Mr Gradwell.

Don’t forget that if you wish to enter the competition to name our reading tree in the KS2 library, you need to give your class teacher a piece of paper with your name and class written on it and the name that you would like to give the tree, by next Friday at the latest.

This week for maths we have been focussing on dividing by ten. Next week we will move on to 100.

The children loved the English lessons this week as they were featuring themes from a book called 'The Tear Thief' by Carol Ann Duffy. They love the story and the beautiful illustrations. They wrote about a precious tear and their vocabulary was wonderful!

For science we have begun our topic 'States of Matter.' This week we explored solids, liquids and gases. We sorted items into the three categories. We looked at how the particles are formed in the different states.

We have begun our D and T project which is 'shell structures.' This week we have looked at a variety of buildings, manmade and natural structures. We have sorted structures into groups of either shell structures or frame structures.

For geography we will be exploring the Amazon Rainforest. This week we investigated the biome of the forest and located it on a world map. We discovered which countries are part of it and looked at how the indigenous people live there. We are exploring the changes that are being made to the forest and how that effects the people living there and contributes towards global warming.

NEXT WEEK

Maths

We will begin with division with 100 and as we progress we will be working on division and multiplication and related facts

English

We will continue working from 'The Tear Thief' as the children write diary entries. We cover comprehension every fortnight and work from the book 'Stig of the Dump' by Clive King.

Spellings

Group One

guide

guest

guardian

guitar

guard

guarantee

guess

guidebook

January

teardrop

Group Two

January

February

time

taste

liquid

fluid

people

quickly

terrified

smiling

Geography

We will be discovering the Amazon Rainforest this half-term. They have rehearsed the Christmas Carol Concert in church today and it was a polished performance! On Monday evening they will perform for you and it will be a treat!

We have been completing projects this week and the children have finally completed a full newspaper report. They put a lot of effort into this piece of work and were very pleased with the outcome.

We have completed factor pairs in our maths lessons and have spent some time experimenting with different pencil thickness to work on shading. They went from there to creating a Winter scene which will be displayed in the corridor next week.

Today the children thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas lunch.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I do apologise.

This week we have been busy as the end of term is approaching. We still have a lot to do!

The children have been learning about report writing in English and next week they will gradually move on to write their own reports. We have also been learning about paragraphs and the children were able to write a well known story using paragraphs in the appropriate places.

For maths we carried out the end of block assessment and the children did well. It helps us recognise if there is any revision we need to do before we move on. So many have learned their times tables, which helped speed up their calculations.. We are moving on to recognise and use factors and multiply by 100 and 1000.

For history we learned about the number systems for early civilisations. The children found this fascinating and learned to use them with ease.

For ICT the children have been learning how to send an email, working on their typing speed and type up their book reviews.

We completed our learning about The Holy Trinity in our RE lesson.

Next week we will be completing the projects we currently have on the go.

Spellings

Group 1

believe

banged

listened

happened

silently

happily

terrified

Christmas

trinity

exceptional

Group 2

believe

banged

Christmas

begin

beginning

waited

wonderful

amazing

people

Jesus

I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.

Ms Davis

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-72721361297866349182023-11-24T16:01:00.000+00:002023-11-24T16:01:12.488+00:00Week ending 24th November 2023
Hi Year Four,

What a great week we have had. The children had so much fun putting their assembly together and they did so well. They certainly are a confident group of performers!

We are continuing to work on multiplication and division.

Many children were thrilled this week as they learned their table and were able to move on to the next. Congratulations to those who have now passed them all. The rate of learning has improved a lot and the children are saying that they are now practising at home. It really does make a huge difference!

For English we have been concentrating on writing the middle part of a story. We have been 'up levelling' our sentences to make the writing more interesting and exciting. The children are learning to use expanded noun phrases, adverbs and fronted adverbials.

We have completed our topic on Picasso for art and will be focussing on Designing and making our vegetable and lentil soup over the coming weeks.

NEXT WEEK

Maths

We will continue to work on multiplication and division.

English

The focus will be singular and plural spelling and the possessive s with an apostrophe.

The children will be writing the ending of their stories and working on ensuring that each sentence makes sense and that the story flows.

We are currently reading 'Stig of the Dump' by Clive King. Next week the children will have a comprehension lesson based on this book.

Science

We will continue our project exploring 'sound.' Next week we will be learning about the ear and how it works.

History

As we continue to to explore early civilisations, next week we will focus on trade, buying and selling.

Spanish

The children will be learning how to state their birth dates and ask another when their birthday is.

Spellings

Group 1

active

capable

credible

accurate

mature

mobile

possible

patient

polite

regular

Group 2

they

there

their

chef

does

country

touch

which

tooth

teeth

Visit to The Hindu Temple

The deadline for payment for this trip is 9th December. Visiting the temple is an experience they may not be offered again and will be extremely beneficial to their understanding.

Please could you confirm your child's place on this trip as soon as possible.

Many thanks #

Ms Davis

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-20082590580518128352023-11-17T15:44:00.000+00:002023-11-17T15:44:04.639+00:00Week ending 17th November 2023
Hello Year Four,

We have begun a block of multiplication and division for maths. The children are beginning to know their times tables facts with rapid recall. It is making such a difference to their maths work.

Please encourage your child to practise at least three or four times a week. They feel so proud when they have achieved a good result on a Friday and are able to move on to the next group of tables.

We have been working on our writing skills up up levelling sentences. We are using fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases to creative interesting, more detailed writing.

We are also in the process of writing an adventure story. This week we worked on creating the setting for the story. Next week we will spend time on the main part of the story.

We will also be working on the plural spellings of words.

For history, the children learned to translate Phoenician writing this week, which they really enjoyed.

We are beginning to use Spanish during the school day. We take the register in Spanish and have now learned to ask what we would like for lunch and will be responding to this in Spanish.

We began our project 'Sound' in science this week. We learned that vibrations through the air creates sound. The children carried out experiments to see how musical instruments vibrate to create sound. They used different materials to block sound and most of their predictions for the most successful material were correct!

NEXT WEEK

It is our assembly next Friday and we are really excited to share our work with you!

Maths

We will continue working on multiplication and division.

English

Next week the children will write the main part of an adventure story. They will need to use noun phrases and adverbials to make the narrative more detailed and interesting.

Spellings

Group 1

strength

suppose

surprise

therefore

although

thought

through

various

weight

woman

Group 2

sweet

prickly

smooth

enormous

fresh

forest

quietly

noisy

loud

proud

Homework

Please ensure that your child practices spellings three or four times a week. It makes such a difference! I send a sheet home with the children which is ideal for 'look, cover, spell, check.'

The children need to practise their tables at least three times a week.

The 'extreme' reading challenge will be the home project for this half-term. The children need to take a photo of themselves reading in an unusual place or position. They need to write a book review to accompany the photo. This will need to be in before the end of term.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-18742041045787629642023-11-10T16:09:00.002+00:002023-11-10T16:09:19.961+00:00
Hello Year Four,

We have come to the end of a busy week!

We have been working on calculating area in maths and the children completed the end of block assessment successfully.

The children are learning how to create sentences with greater interest and more detail to use in creative writing challenges, so we have been learning how to recognise and use expanded noun phrases and fronted adverbials. They have written two setting descriptions which included the added phrases and next week we will be beginning to write an adventure story which include these.

We completed our project on food chains for science.

For RE we learned about symbols. We drew everyday symbols that we use and focused on symbols for Hinduism and Christianity.

We had a well-being day today and the focus was on understanding and recognising our feelings. We also looked at resilience and the children had two mindfulness sessions.

Next Week

Maths

Next week we will be beginning a new unit on multiplication and division. It will help a lot if they can practise their times tables for this.

English

Our English lessons will include working on using fronted adverbials and plotting an adventure story. the children will also have a comprehension lesson.

Science

We will be starting a new topic on sound next week. we will be learning about how we hear sounds and the materials sounds pass through. We will be experimenting with a variety of musical instruments.

History

The children will be exploring Phoenician writing. We will look at ancient writing and translate it so that we can understand it.

D and T

Following our soup tasting experience the children have discovered that the most popular soup is lentil.

Next week we will be making lentil soup!

Spellings

Group 1

question

recent

regular

reign

remember

sentence

separate

special

straight

strange

Group 2

friend

given

please

place

beautiful

world

went

where

what

when

I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.

Ms Davis

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-34692194057051663052023-11-03T16:26:00.000+00:002023-11-03T16:26:55.603+00:00Week ending 3rd November 2023
Welcome back,

I hope you all had a great half-term holiday.

We have been working on finding areas in maths this week. This will continue next week.

For English we have been learning how to write expanded noun phrases and adding these to descriptions of different settings.

Our focus in science is food chains.

Today we had a discussion about judging by appearance and stereotyping. The children enjoyed the session and began to draw different images, rather than the usual stereotype.

For history we learned about ancient civilisations. We looked at a variety of timelines and located the civilisations on a world map.

We looked at cubism in our art lesson as we begin to study the work of Picasso.

Next week's spellings

Group One

perhaps

popular

position

possess

possible

potatoes

pressure

probably

promise

quarter

Group Two

area

people

pretty

symbol

Hindu

sound

ear

hear

art

old

This half-term's work

English

We will be focussing on expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials and uplevelling the writing this half-term.

The children will be using this when they write setting descriptions and a story. It all began on Monday when we were soup testing.

We will be making soup after the half term break so we are beginning to prepare for this project. The first step is to decide on the flavour of soup we would like to make, therefore we tasted a few soups to begin this process.

We followed this by observing our recent experiment to find out which liquids decay teeth. We have used egg shells as the teeth substitute. We have filled jars with a variety of liquids (including Prime!) and will observe the amount of decay on each egg.

We created the middle of our mythical adventure this week. The children wrote exciting, dramatic stories.

We are working on addition and subtraction with 4-digit numbers in maths.

For Spanish we are beginning to be able to have longer conversation as each week we learn more short phrases. The children should be able to say hello and ask how you are. They could ask you what your name is and how old you are.

For geography we measured the distance our food travels.

In our RE lesson the children learned about several pilgrimage sites for the Christian religion.

NEXT WEEK

Next week we will be completing all our projects for this half-term.

The month of October is Black History Month therefore we will be dedicating a day's teaching to this topic.

We will be soup tasting this week as we plan to make soup after half-term. I will be buying tins of vegetable soups that the children will taste test. Please let me know if you have any concerns about this.

Spellings

Group 1

interest

island

knowledge

learn

length

library

material

medicine

mention

minute

Group 2

learn

stopping

popping

understand

visit

quietly

reading

over

under

bottom

I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.

Ms Davis

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-62267742544310182622023-10-06T16:13:00.000+01:002023-10-06T16:13:00.162+01:00Week ending 6th October 2023
Hello Year Four,

I hope you all enjoyed the harvest festival today. The children were excited to share their songs.

We are currently working on adverbs in English and the children are using them when they write sentences.

We are working on creating a mythical story at the moment. We have written the beginning of a story and used sentences which grab the attention of the reader! We have tired to create suspense and a sense of adventure.

We completed a comprehension task as I am teaching comprehension skills on a weekly basis.

The children had great fun creating an amusing poem inspired by 'Allan Ahlberg's' book 'I heard it in in the playground.' It was a class effort and they are very proud of their work!

We have started a new block in maths. We are currently working on addition and subtraction.

This week the children learned more about teeth and how to protect them. They know the functions of the different parts of a tooth. They are thinking about their diets and which foods and drinks may be harmful for their teeth.

The spelling tests are going really well. The children are very pleased with their results.

Please ensure the children focus on their times tables at least three times a week. They are all at varying stages and know which tables they need to learn. We are concentrating on 2s, 3s, and 4s, for next week.

NEXT WEEK

English

Next week we will continue to use adverbs in sentences. We will create the middle part of a mythical story. There will be a comprehension lesson and three handwriting lessons.

Spellings

Group One

group

guard

guide

heard

heart

height

history

imagine

increase

important

Group Two

found

sound

bound

around

chatting

working

playing

saying

Wednesday

happily

Maths

We will continue to work on addition and subtraction, using exchange.

Science

The children are keen to experiment with egg shells a a range of liquids to find out what happens to them. They will choose the liquids they wish to experiment with, set up the experiment, noting how it is a fair test and wait a few days to record the results.

ICT

We will be finding out whether or not we should believe everything we read on the internet.

Geography

The focus will be on mapping and calculating the distance our food has to travel.

Some of the children shared their home projects this week. They had researched well and were confident when explaining where food comes from.

RE

We will be looking at a Muslim pilgrimage.

D and T

The children will be making soup at some stage this term, therefore we will be looking at the elements we need to consider to make sure it is healthy, appealing and tasty!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-41215930577079643082023-09-29T16:02:00.001+01:002023-09-29T16:02:56.121+01:00Week ending 29th September 2023
Hello Year One,

This week we have been working hard and completed an extended piece of writing incorporating all we have learned so far on English. We had to write about a journey and include adjectives, commas and conjunctions. We had to write with joined letters, making sure every letter touched the line. We read them to the class and were all proud of our achievements.

For maths we have continued to work on place value. This week's work included Roman Numerals.

For geography we have been focussing on fair trade. We know how to find food that has been traded fairly and we understand the benefits of 'fair trade' on local communities.

We wrote about our own special journeys for our RE lesson. We had to reflect on our feelings and explain why the journeys were special.

For ICT we looked at websites and what we would expect to find on a website.

In our science lesson we began to investigate 'teeth.' We looked at the different types of teeth and what they are used for.

For PHSE we have explored rewards and consequences and how they motivate behaviour.

NEXT WEEK

English

We will be using adverbs next week. The children will be planning the beginning of a story and will be creating a poem on Thursday.

Maths

The place value block will be completed next week and we will move on to addition and subtraction in 1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s.

Science

We will investigate what teeth are made of and discuss how we can keep our teeth healthy.

Geography

Next week's focus will be about where chocolate comes from and the ingredients used to produce it.

RE

We will be exploring a Hindu pilgrimage to The Ganges.

Spellings

Group One

enough

exercise

experience

experiment

extreme

famous

favourite

February

forward

fruit

Group Two

lovely

lonely

smile

yesterday

today

tomorrow

why

whisper

story

sweet

Times Tables

There is a big focus on times tables in Year Four and we work on learning them in school regularly, however the children do need to practise them at least three times a week at home. I have discussed several strategies with them. Please can you support your child with this learning as often as possible.

Next week some children are moving on to their 4 x table, the rest are continuing to focus on 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. They are aware of which tables they need to learn.

Please use TT Rockstars to support this learning. all the children have been given their login details and this programme is perfect for continual practise.

PGL Years 3 and 4

We are hoping to go to PGL in April 24. If you would like your child to go please could you pay the deposit ASAP via Arbor.

I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.

Ms Davis

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-43467204682323857912023-09-22T15:59:00.000+01:002023-09-22T15:59:08.671+01:00Week ending 22nd September 2023
Hello Year Four,

We have had a fun week with great work taking place.

The children drew amazing expressive self-portraits and during our PHSE lesson were able to share them with the rest of the class.

We have continued to work on place value up to 10,000, using number lines and tables. We have been working on our 2s, 5s, and 10 times tables and next week some children will be adding 3s. The children are aware of which tables they need to practise at home.

We have been working on including commas, conjunctions and adjectives to our writing.

We explored pilgrimage in our RE lesson and talked about the difference between ordinary and special journeys.

For science we completed our work on the digestive system as the children were able to explain the function of all the organs necessary for digestion.

NEXT WEEK

English

We will be creating an extended piece of writing next week which must include commas, conjunctions, adjectives with neat handwriting. This piece will be on a place on Earth they would like to visit. They have already produced a mind map to prepare for this task.

We will be practising handwriting three times next week.

The children will be recognising and using adverbs in their writing and completing a comprehension task.

Maths

We will continue our work on place value as we explore ordering numbers to 10,000. We move on to Roman numerals and rounding up and down to nearest 10 and 100.

Science

As we have completed digestion we will begin to look at teeth and their part in the process. We will look at the types of teeth we have and their function.

RE

The children will be writing about a special journey they make. It would be great if they could talk to you about any annual or special trips or visits you make. They will need to think about what they wear, what they take with them, what they do when they get there, any special meal they may have and any cleaning that may take place.

Geography

The focus will be on how we can trade responsibly and the home project will be linked to this topic on where our food comes from.

ICT

We will be looking at websites.

READING

We have been working on systems for changing and recording the books the children read.

From now on the children need to return their book and reading record every day

Please ensure your child reads 5 times a week

Please discuss the book with your child to ensure he/she is understanding what has been read

Sign and date the reading record when your child has finished a book

When you have signed to say that your child has finished reading a book he/she will be able to change it for a new one. They may complete this any way they want to. They need to take 5 to 8 items of food from the cupboard or fridge and find out where they were produced. They need to mark this on the world map. They will present their findings to the rest of the class.

I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.

Ms Davis

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456873760690473189.post-62012228909914607322023-09-15T13:23:00.001+01:002023-09-15T13:23:25.419+01:00Week ending 15th September 2023
Hello Year Four,

We have had a busy week!

We have covered place value up to 10,000, learned our 2 times table and had a few bingo games in the process.

I will be sending home the 'TT Rockstars' login details for each child this evening. We are beginning with 2s, 5s and 10s, but need to progress to 3s after this revision. It is important that your child accesses this programme and is able to give rapid response to the tables.

This week we worked from the book 'Dear Earth' by Isabel Otter and Clara Anganuzzi. We have been describing journeys around Earth, writing letters to Earth and imagining being an animal, so describing our habitat.

Throughout these lessons we have been focussing on using commas, spellings and handwriting.

We have been revising Spanish greetings this week, so you could practise this with your child at home.

For geography we are discovering where our food comes from and which types of food are more harmful to our environment. The children presented their findings to the class.

For PHSE we are looking at our actions and attitudes and how they can affect others. The children have enjoyed all the fun activities and even the work!

They created some amazing mythical creatures and their descriptions were vivid and imaginative!

They spent time on beautiful sea back washes and have completed the seascapes with silhouettes of sea creatures which look very affective.

We did recap the 2 times table this week.
