 Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you’ve all been enjoying the beautiful sunshine this week—it’s certainly helped to lift everyone’s spirits here at school! As we head into the weekend, I’d like to wish you all a restful and happy few days ahead. And of course, a special mention goes to all the dads reading this - we wish you a very happy Father’s Day!

In English this week, the children have continued planning their very own nonsensical poems, inspired by the wonderfully quirky “Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carroll. It’s been a joy to see their imaginations run wild as they invent their own peculiar creatures, playful language, and whimsical worlds. Next week, we’ll be putting pen to paper to begin writing these unique creations—we can’t wait to see what fantastical ideas come to life!

In maths, we wrapped up our topic on Time, which the children approached with great focus and enthusiasm. We’ve now moved on to Shape and are beginning to explore the characteristics of triangles, quadrilaterals, and polygons. The children are already showing great curiosity as they learn to identify different types of angles.

In our science topic Animals and their Habitats, we’ve been delving into how animals adapt in order to survive in their environments. We’ve also had some brilliant class discussions about both positive and negative influences on different habitats, particularly looking at the role humans play. The children have shown real thoughtfulness when considering how human actions—such as pollution and conservation efforts —can affect wildlife in different ways.

We’re very excited about starting our new Local History topic next week! On Tuesday, we’ll be joined by a local historian who will help us kick-start our learning. Together, we’ll begin uncovering the rich and fascinating history of Potters Bar and Little Heath. It’s always a special moment when the children start to see the links between the past and their own community—it brings history to life in a very meaningful way.

Finally, we’re all looking forward to welcoming you on Thursday for our annual Sports Day! It’s always a highlight of the school year and the children are buzzing with anticipation. Fingers crossed for more sunshine as we gather to cheer them on and celebrate their teamwork, effort and sporting spirit.

Wishing you all a sunny and enjoyable weekend!
