Hello everyone,

I really can't believe we're into the last week of the school year already! It's been another busy week in Year 4 and we've squeezed lots into it.

In English, we've reached the end of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which has been a story the children have really enjoyed. Next week, we'll be watching the film, which is rated PG. If you're happy for your child to watch it, you don't need to do anything. If you'd prefer that they don't, just send me an email to let me know.

In History, we've continued learning about the local history of Little Heath. This week, the children had great fun imagining what Little Heath School might look like in 100 years' time. They worked together to come up with their ideas before using AI to bring their visions to life. We ended up with some incredible results and the children seemed optimistic about these predictions coming to life!

In Science, we've been finding out about conductors and insulators. The children tested different materials to see whether they would allow electricity to pass through and complete a circuit. They really enjoyed making predictions before testing their ideas and were surprised by some of the results.

Last Wednesday, the children made their mini pizzas using the toppings they had planned. They spread tomato purée onto muffin bases before adding cheese and their favourite toppings. The food tech room smelled amazing!

In RE/PSHE, we talked about moral values and looked at different dilemmas where there isn't always an easy answer. The children had some really thoughtful discussions and showed lots of empathy as they considered how to make the right choices while thinking about other people's feelings.

The children have also been busy creating their volcanoes over the past week, and they're very excited to erupt them next week. I have a feeling it might be a noisy (and messy!) way to end the year!

Hello everyone,

I hope you have all had a lovely week. It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Parents' Consultation meetings this week.

We have just over two weeks left of the school year now, and I really mean it when I say I can't believe we're at this point already! It definitely feels like one of the shortest school years of my teaching career. But, as they say, time flies when you're having fun!

In science this week, the children continued experimenting with electrical circuits, exploring what makes a circuit complete or incomplete. They investigated how different components, such as switches and bulbs, affect whether electricity can flow and made predictions before testing their ideas. It has been great to see the children's enthusiasm as they have worked scientifically to solve different circuit problems.

In maths, we have been learning about collecting, representing and interpreting data in a variety of ways, including line graphs, bar charts and pictograms. The children have been answering questions using the data they have collected, comparing different sets of information and drawing conclusions based on the evidence. They have shown increasing confidence in explaining what the data tells them.

As part of our reading comprehension lessons over the last few weeks, we have been finding out about mountains and volcanoes. It has been fantastic to see how interested the children have been in this topic. As a result, over the next couple of weeks, the children will be making their own erupting volcanoes. For this project, please could the children bring in an empty plastic bottle (any size is absolutely fine) and some newspaper.

In history, the children have been learning about the local history of Little Heath, which they have been really enthusiastic about. This week, we compared and ordered maps of Little Heath from across the last 1,000 years. We also looked at photographs of Little Heath Primary School from over 100 years ago! Although the building itself hasn't changed too much, I think it's fair to say that the classrooms certainly have! (Please see the pictures below.)

During our discussions, the children decided it would be lovely to create a time capsule that, hopefully, children at Little Heath will be able to unearth in 100 years' time. We will be creating some items in class to include, but if your child would like to make something at home that represents themselves or the school, they are very welcome to do so. Please could any contributions be no larger than A5 size.
