Week ending 15th March 2024

 Hello Year Four,

We have had a busy and productive week. It has been science week and the children have been carrying out experiments and working on projects.

The children had to create a tree using only two pieces of A4 paper. It was a challenge! They worked in pairs and the results were amazing!

NEXT WEEK

We will be focussing on maths and English next week as we will be spending a lot of time rehearsing for the KS2 production.

English

The children will be learning how to write a persuasive letter. They will be planning it, exploring the purpose of their letter, using appropriate arguments and language that features emotive writing, rhetorical questions, exaggeration and provokes sympathy.

Maths

We are continuing to work on perimeter. Next week we explore regular and irregular polygons and how to calculate their perimeters. Halfway through the week we will begin fractions. Firstly we will explore 'the whole' and move on to count beyond 1.

Friday 8 March 2024

Week ending 8th March 2024

 Hello Year Four,

This week we have been working on finding perimeters in our maths lessons.

For English the children have written a scene for a play, directed it, acted it and videoed it. They were very successful!

In history we are exploring the Anglo Saxons, Picts and Scots. This week we focussed on Sutton Hoo and the archeological dig that enabled us to learn so much about this period of time. The children were fascinated by this and produced some good work following their research.

As it was World Book Day on Thursday the children enjoyed describing their characters and explaining why they chose their books.

NEXT WEEK

Science week

As it will be science week next week we will be creating an object out of minimal resources, making string telephones to discover how sound travels and taking part in a workshop.

Maths

We are continuing to focus on perimeter and next week we will be calculating the perimeters of shapes whereby some lengths are missing.

English

The main focus next week will be grammar, punctuation and comprehension.

PHSE

Next week we will be learning about healthy food and nutrition.

Rehearsals

We will be beginning to spend longer rehearsing for the KS2 performance.

Week ending 1st March 2024

 Hello Year Four,

We have had a fabulous week!

On Tuesday we went to visit Christ Church. The focus was on the church building and contents and praise and worship.

The children had a series of activities to experience that were linked to the theme. They learned so much and enjoyed it very much.

When we returned to school the children completed a project on churches and Christianity. They remembered so much from the visit and had fun adding photos to their work.

For maths we are working on measurement. We have learned to measure in metres, centimetres and millimetres. We are currently exploring perimeters.

In our English lessons the children have learned how to write play scripts. Some of the children are creating a puppet show of Alice in Wonderland and others will be acting a scene from the play.

We have also been completing a design and technology project. As you know from their home project we have been exploring shell structures and have been focussing on skyscrapers. Thank you so much for ensuring these were completed at home. The children have learned so much from this study.
This week they designed and created a skyscraper with set specifications. We were all amazed at how well they did. Most of the buildings met the criteria.

NEXT WEEK

English

The children will be working on comprehension next week. They will be learning to direct and film plays and puppet shows. Following this we will watch the performances and discuss the outcomes.

Maths

We will continue our work on perimeters, moving on to find the missing lengths in rectilinear shapes.

History

Next week we begin a new project in our history lessons as we explore life for The Anglo Saxons, Picts and Scots.

RE

The children will be reflecting on where they find safe sacred/special places to be in peace, quietly reflect and feel safe.

PHSE

We begin a new chapter in PHSE as we start 'Healthy Me.' We will begin by focussing on healthy friendships.

ART

In line with our design and technology project on buildings, we will begin to explore skylines. The children will experiment with paint, charcoal and pencil to create effective \London skylines.

World Book Day

Next Thursday is World Book Day, so the children will be able to dress up as a character from a favourite book. They can also bring the book in with them. It will be a fun day as we explore books.

Have a great weekend!
