And it's Friday again!
I hope you’ve all had a lovely week. Year 4 has certainly had a fantastic time, filled with practical activities and lots of learning! Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
Maths
We’ve concluded our topic on multiplication and division. Next week, we’ll consolidate this term’s learning through various activities and maths games, helping the children reinforce their skills in a fun and interactive way.
English
We’ve started reading our new class book, The Iron Man. So far, we’ve been introduced to the mysterious Iron Man and have developed our comprehension skills by exploring where he might have come from. The children have worked hard on descriptive writing, using expanded noun phrases and similes to bring their descriptions of the Iron Man to life. Next week, we’ll continue the story, focusing on adverbials, conjunctions, and figurative language through diary entries, advice writing, and detailed descriptions.
British Museum Trip
Monday was a highlight of our week as we visited the British Museum. The children explored fascinating ancient artefacts and learned about daily life in Ancient Egypt, the mummification process (a particular favourite!), and the significance of the Rosetta Stone in deciphering hieroglyphics. To top it off, we had smooth traffic in and out of London—a perfect end to a fantastic day!
RE
This week, we discussed the symbolism within Hindu Dharma. The children used insights from their recent temple visit to enhance our discussions. They also created drawings and wrote about various Hindu symbols and their significance.
Science
We investigated how sounds become fainter as the distance from the sound source increases. By creating and experimenting with string telephones, the children learned how sound vibrations travel through different mediums to reach our ears—a hands-on way to explore sound!
Design and Technology
After weeks of planning, the children were thrilled to make their wraps. They learned about hygiene and safety, prepared their chosen vegetables, and selected proteins for their fillings. Everyone proudly took their delicious creations home to share.
Looking Ahead
Next Friday, we’ll be celebrating with our Christmas lunch and jumper day—an event the children are eagerly anticipating!
Thank you for your continued support. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend, and we’ll see you all next week.
Warm regards,
Mr Chanter
