Week ending 15th September 2023

 Hello Year Four,

We have had a busy week!

We have covered place value up to 10,000, learned our 2 times table and had a few bingo games in the process.

I will be sending home the 'TT Rockstars' login details for each child this evening. We are beginning with 2s, 5s and 10s, but need to progress to 3s after this revision. It is important that your child accesses this programme and is able to give rapid response to the tables.

This week we worked from the book 'Dear Earth' by Isabel Otter and Clara Anganuzzi. We have been describing journeys around Earth, writing letters to Earth and imagining being an animal, so describing our habitat.

Throughout these lessons we have been focussing on using commas, spellings and handwriting.

We have been revising Spanish greetings this week, so you could practise this with your child at home.

For geography we are discovering where our food comes from and which types of food are more harmful to our environment. The children presented their findings to the class.

For PHSE we are looking at our actions and attitudes and how they can affect others. We are discussing how it feels to be excluded and included in friendship groups.

In science we are investigating our digestive system.

English

We will continue to practise handwriting three times a week.

We are going to continue working from the book 'Dear Earth.' We will be researching an area of choice on Earth and writing about why we would like to visit this place, what we would find interesting, how we may feel, what we would see, hear and smell.

Throughout our written work we will be focussing on conjunctions and using them to enhance our writing.

Maths

We will continue to work on place value as we begin estimating on number lines to 10,000, finding 1, 10, 100, 1,000 more or less and partitioning numbers to 10,000.

We will be working on our 2, 5 and 10 times table and the test will be on all of these on Friday.

Science

We will be continuing to investigate the digestive system, working on the functions of the different organs.

Spanish

The focus will be to continue learning basic greetings as we extend this to asking and replying to a variety of questions.

Geography

We will be focussing on how to trade responsibly.

PHSE

The children will think about how they manage and feel during difficult situations.

RE

We will investigate pilgrimage and think about the special journeys we make and how they differ from ordinary trips.

I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.

Ms Davis
