Week ending 2nd February 2024

 Hello Year Four,

The week has flown by as we have been so busy!

We have continued to work on multiplication and division in our maths lessons.

For English we have been writing poems. We were inspired by the book 'The Tear Thief' as it is full of alliteration. I would like to share one of these with you.

                                                             Slowly she swooped silently

Up to the shiny silvery moon

She swiftly skipped from house to house

Pouring them perfectly into a pearl-shaped pond

The majestic moon made her smile

The children wrote about their visit to the Hindu temple. They were given small photos that they took during the day to use within their writing. They were obviously inspired as they wrote pages!

Next Week

English

For English next week we will begin a new project. The children will be learning how to write play scripts. We will be using the story 'Alice in Wonderland.' The children will eventually perform using their own scripts and video record the action.

Maths

It will be our last week on multiplication and division.

Please ensure your child works on his/her times tables at least three times a week.

Geography

Next Thursday we will be taking the children on a field trip. This will be covering aspects of our work in geography and a study in science.

We will be investigating a wooded area to find out what it is used for and who it would impact if it was removed or destroyed. It links in with our exploration of the Amazon Rainforest.

Science

We have been studying birds as part of the NSPCB project for children. Our field trip will include an observational activity of the birds in the area.

Spanish

We will be continuing our learning of the Spanish names for family members.

PHSE

The children will be thinking about disappointment and how to manage this often difficult emotion. They will be given strategies to help when this feels overwhelming.

Walk to the woods

As explained earlier we will be going on a short field trip on Thursday morning. The children will need warm coats and a change of shoes/boots (preferably wellington boots.) Please have these in a named bag as the dirty boots will need to be removed once we arrive back at school.

Home Project

For Design and technology this term we are focusing on shell structures. We have done quite a lot of background work already.

The children will be designing and creating a skyscraper building, so I would like them to do some research before this begins.

They need to look online, in magazines, newspapers and books for pictures and photos of skyscraper buildings. They will need to write some facts about their findings, such as where the building is located, when it was built and it's height. They can include more information than this if they wish to. They can look at tall buildings in other countries and find out the differences in style and materials. They could go on a walk and draw or photograph tall buildings in our local area.

If you need any further information on this research project please see me after school or email me.

I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.

Ms Davis
